Ho Chi Minh City and Sun Group will commence the renovation project of Ben Nha Rong - Khanh Hoi Cultural Park on April 29th 2026

On April 29, 2026, at Nha Rong Wharf (Xom Chieu Ward), Ho Chi Minh City, Sun Group commenced the renovation and upgrading project of the Ho Chi Minh Museum - Ho Chi Minh City branch. The project is part of Phase 1 of the Nha Rong - Khanh Hoi Cultural Park and public green space project along the Saigon River, covering 147 hectares with a total investment of over 20,000 billion VND. The project is being implemented under the PPP (Public-Private Partnership) and BT (Build-Transfer) contract methods

The Nha Rong - Khanh Hoi port area, spanning approximately 39.5 hectares, is being renovated and expanded into a cultural park featuring 9 themes, greenery, a central square, underground spaces, and public amenities

Perspective view of the future Ben Nha Rong - Khanh Hoi park.

Previously, Ho Chi Minh City had canceled the investment plan for the Nha Rong - Khanh Hoi Complex project, which was being developed by Ngoc Vien Dong Urban Development Investment Co., Ltd., due to its incompatibility with current regulations

According to the new plan, the Nha Rong - Khanh Hoi port area will expand the space for the Ho Chi Minh Museum, with approximately 60% of the land area allocated to green spaces and water bodies, 20% for public facilities, and 20% for the international port. The proportion of parkland will therefore increase by about 15 times compared to the previous plan.

The Nha Rong - Khanh Hoi port area is located along the Saigon River, in Xom Chieu ward, bordering the center of District 1 (formerly), a few hundred meters from Nguyen Hue pedestrian street and Bach Dang wharf park. Within this area, Nha Rong Wharf – now the Ho Chi Minh Museum, Ho Chi Minh City branch – is associated with the historical event of June 5, 1911, when young Nguyen Tat Thanh left Saigon to seek a way to save the country.

In Phase 1, covering 9 hectares and with an investment of over 1,200 billion VND, Ho Chi Minh City will develop a key area in Zone 1 - the Ben Nha Rong Central Area, including a landscaped park, a central square, riverside public spaces, and essential technical infrastructure

The Ben Nha Rong - Khanh Hoi Cultural Park is designed with a central image of a flowing stream, representing the historical flow divided into 9 chapters, corresponding to 9 stages in the life of President Ho Chi Minh, from his hometown of Lang Sen, his journey to find a way to save the country, to his return to lead the revolution

The landscape depicts a Vietnamese countryside scene with lotus ponds, bamboo groves, and rustic pathways, reminiscent of Lang Sen village where he was born

The arduous journey of the young man Nguyen Tat Thanh, who left his homeland to seek a way to save the country, is recreated through the design of a pedestrian bridge shaped like a boat's bow extending into the Saigon River.

The "Freedom Corridor" design, with its enclosed space 1.5 meters below ground level, serves as a reminder of President Ho Chi Minh's arduous, challenging, yet optimistic years of imprisonment.

The section themed "Tears Flowing Down" recreates the moving memory of the day President Ho Chi Minh passed away (September 2, 1969)

The focal point of the project is Independence Square, designed in the shape of a star, recreating the great victory of Spring 1975

The final chapter, with the ninth stream – the eternal stream – is designed as an infinite column of light shining straight up into the sky. Surrounding this column of light are 79 small fountains, symbolizing the 79 years of President Ho Chi Minh's life

The Ben Nha Rong - Khanh Hoi Cultural Park will open up a continuous public, cultural, and ecological space along the Saigon River, connecting the existing city center with Thu Thiem, contributing to the comprehensive restructuring of the riverside urban space. Upon completion, the entire project will be a space connecting the past, present, and future in a continuous, seamless corridor, where history is vividly retold to generations of Vietnamese people and international friends

Mr. Tran Minh Son, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sun Group, said that the renovation and refurbishment project of the Ho Chi Minh Museum - Ho Chi Minh City branch will be implemented within 120 days, with the inauguration expected on National Day, September 2nd

Phase 2 of the project is a 138-hectare public park along the Saigon River, planned as a multi-functional green space with public amenities, community centers, recreational areas, a passenger port, and a resettlement area for affected residents

At the Khanh Hoi port warehouse area, a portion of the existing warehouses will be renovated into a public, commercial, and creative exhibition space complex according to the plan

Viewed from above, the planned expansion area of Ho Chi Minh City's cultural space is strategically located along the Saigon River, facing Nguyen Tat Thanh Street, a gateway connecting the city center with the southern part of Ho Chi Minh City. Nguyen Tat Thanh Street is expected to be expanded to 6 - 8 lanes, and a new Tan Thuan 1 bridge will be built to replace the existing one, thereby improving traffic connectivity in the area
