The Ho Chi Minh City Statistics Office has just reported on the socio-economic situation in June and the first 6 months of 2023 in the area.

Estimated GRDP in the first 6 months of 2023 increased by 3.55% over the same period. This is seen as a great effort of the city.

 

 

 

 

The Ho Chi Minh City Statistics Office said that the index of industrial production (IIP) in June 2023 was estimated to increase by 2.3% over the previous month and by 4.8% over the same period. Generally in the first 6 months of 2023, the IIP index in HCMC increased by 1.9% over the same period.

 

In June alone, the total retail sales of consumer goods and services was estimated at 102,314 billion VND, up 2.9% over the previous month and up 11.2% over the same period. Thus, the total retail sales of consumer goods and services in the first 6 months of 2023 is estimated at 561,734 billion VND, up 7.1% over the same period.

 

At the meeting with voters in District 4 on the morning of June 28, Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai said that the city's economic situation had positive changes in the second quarter and will be better in the third quarter. Therefore, voters and people should not panic in the current context to overcome difficulties and promote development together with the city.

 

However, Mr. Mai also acknowledged the fact that in the first months of the year, the city had to face the situation of "internal and external attacks". Ho Chi Minh City's economy is almost completely open, so it is easily affected by the fluctuations of the world.

 

While localities are just beginning to be influenced by the world economy, cities have been affected before. Orders of businesses in the area decreased by an average of 30-50%, especially some businesses and fields decreased by 70%.
