Previously, on August 31, engineers and workers carried out the installation of AS16 beams to complete the main bridge connecting District 1 and Thu Duc City in September 2021.
Construction started in 2015, according to the original plan, Thu Thiem 2 Bridge was completed in 2018, then extended until September this year.
However, in September 2020, when the bridge reached 70% of the volume, it had to stop construction due to the ground problem in District 1 and payment procedures. After that, these problems were all resolved by the City People's Committee and the construction resumed in mid-May 2021.
Thu Thiem 2 Bridge is designed with a scale of 6 lanes, a total length of 1,465m. The 885m-long bridge is designed as a cable-stayed bridge, with the main tower having the shape of a 113-meter-high dragon bridge, leaning towards Thu Thiem.
Along with artistic lighting design, Thu Thiem 2 Bridge will be an outstanding architectural highlight on the Saigon River both day and night.
The completed work helps to connect traffic between Thu Thiem new urban area and the existing city center, facilitating people to travel, reducing traffic pressure for Saigon Bridge and Saigon River Tunnel.
Up to now, the project is one of the rare key works to ensure progress in this period.
