An Phu Interchange, located in Thu Duc City, is gradually being completed and becoming an important connection point between Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay Expressway and major roads such as Mai Chi Tho, Luong Dinh Cua and Dong Van Cong.
Considered the "eastern gateway" of Ho Chi Minh City (old), the project has a scale of 3 floors including an underpass, an overpass and a road, helping to reduce traffic, shorten travel time and expand urban development space.
An Phu intersection underpass and overpass gradually taking shape
An Phu Interchange will start construction at the end of 2022 with a total investment of more than 3,400 billion VND. The project includes a two-way underpass connecting Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway with Mai Chi Tho Street extended through Dong Van Cong (towards Thu Thiem Tunnel). Above, there is a Y-shaped bridge connecting the expressway approach road with Mai Chi Tho and Luong Dinh Cua Streets; a C-shaped overpass for vehicles turning right from the expressway approach road through Mai Chi Tho. The Mai Chi Tho - Dong Van Cong intersection also has two overpasses built to connect these roads together.
Project size and structure
An Phu intersection project includes:
The two-way underpass connects the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay expressway with Mai Chi Tho street, extending to Dong Van Cong, towards Thu Thiem tunnel.
HC1-01 underpass is 455m long, 20m wide, designed with 4 car lanes (2 lanes in each direction), with a total investment of about 342 billion VND, and was officially opened to traffic at noon on June 30, 2025.

C-shaped overpass, serving the right turn from the highway onto Mai Chi Tho Street (on Hanoi Highway)
Two separate overpasses at the Mai Chi Tho – Dong Van Cong intersection help increase traffic connectivity between routes.
Construction progress of main items
Updated to June 2025, the project has completed more than 68% of the volume, promising to strongly promote real estate value and connect the entire Eastern area of Ho Chi Minh City.
According to information from the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board, by the end of August 2025, the items have reached important milestones:
Construction packages such as: XL5 (Underpass Branch HC1-01) (from Thu Thiem Tunnel to the expressway): completed about 90% - 95%.
Package XL6 (HC1-02 underpass) has reached 73% of output, expected to be completed in January 2026
Ba Dat XL7 Bridge (Ba Dat Bridge) and XL7 (Ba Dat Bridge), XL8 (Giong Ong To Bridge) have been 90-95% completed.
Package XL11 (N2 overpass) is currently 55% complete and will be completed by December 2025.
As for package XL10 (overpass branches N3, N4), branch N3 is expected to be operational from April 30, 2026, the remaining branch will be open to traffic before June 30, 2026.
Package XL12 (overpass branches N1.1 and N1.3) is currently only 17% complete and the Traffic Department has proposed a completion date of June 2026 instead of the end of 2026.
Particularly, package XL13 (overpass branch N1.2) has the lowest output of only 12%, and is currently suspended. Therefore, the completion progress depends entirely on the progress of handing over the land of 22,012 m² on Luong Dinh Cua Street.
The An Phu intersection project is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. Once completed, this intersection will help reduce traffic congestion in the area.
At noon on June 30, 2025, the HC1 underpass branch of the An Phu traffic intersection project, including 2 tunnels with 4 lanes, was officially opened to traffic and put into use. Some images of the HC1-01 underpass:
