Thu Thiem 2 Bridge is more than 3,000 billion VND on the occasion of this year's 2.9 holiday

Thu Thiem 2 Bridge across the Saigon River with a total investment of 3,082 billion VND, nearly 1.5 km long, will be completed and put into operation in the second quarter of next year.

 

On July 14, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Le Hoa Binh led a delegation of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to check the progress and prevention of COVID-19 on the construction site of Thu Thiem 2 bridge project.

 

Reported to the inspection team, Mr. Koscher Xavier - Project Director said that in the face of complicated epidemic situation and Ho Chi Minh City's social distancing according to Directive 16, the project is currently being implemented under the model "3 at on-site", including: on-site construction, on-site anti-epidemic and on-site accommodation.

 

In which, about 120 engineers and workers work in shifts and stay at the construction site, arranged to rest and eat, to ensure the regulations on epidemic prevention and control.

Regarding the project progress, the total construction volume of Thu Thiem 2 bridge project currently reaches more than 70%. On July 14, Thu Thiem 2 bridge was installed with the 14th girder burning out of 17 segments of the main bridge. Currently, the main tower has also completed 30/34 pylons and 44/56 cable-stayed bundles.

 

According to Mr. Koscher Xavier, after installing the 14th beam, the remaining three segments of the project will be accelerated construction to keep up with the schedule of the main span and tower, connecting the two banks from Thu Thiem new urban area. (Thanh Thu Duc) to District 1 on the upcoming holiday. According to the plan, it will be completed and put Thu Thiem 2 bridge into operation in the second quarter of next year.

Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Le Hoa Binh said that the Thu Thiem 2 bridge project is one of the key projects that the Resolution of the 11th Party Congress of Ho Chi Minh City has proposed and made efforts to implement.

Mr. Binh assessed the project's quality and progress. This is a special project with a complex technical structure, which is jointly implemented by foreign contractors and experts in coordination with domestic units.

 

"The speeding up of the Thu Thiem 2 bridge project is being focused by the city, aiming at the dual goal of COVID-19 prevention and socio-economic development," Binh said.

 

Started in 2015, Thu Thiem 2 Bridge has a total investment of nearly 3,100 billion VND. The original plan, the bridge was completed in 2018, then extended until September this year.

 

However, in September 2020, when the bridge reached 70% of the volume, construction had to be stopped due to the ground problem in District 1 and payment procedures. Up to now, all these problems have been resolved by the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City and construction resumed in mid-May 2021.

 

Thu Thiem 2 Bridge is designed with a scale of 6 lanes, a total length of 1,465 m. The 885m-long bridge is designed as a cable-stayed bridge, with the main tower in the shape of a 113-meter-high dragon bridge, leaning towards Thu Thiem.

 

Along with artistic lighting design, Thu Thiem 2 Bridge will be an outstanding architectural highlight on the Saigon River both day and night.

 

The completed work helps to connect traffic between Thu Thiem new urban area and the existing downtown area of ​​Ho Chi Minh City, facilitating people to travel, reducing traffic pressure for Saigon Bridge and Saigon River Tunnel.
